Equine Dentistry Holistic Healing through Equine Dentistry
David Martin is an Equine dentist who has worked in the horse industry for over 27 years.
As a young boy David was introduced to horses by his father who was a farrier and also trained racehorses and also broke in horses. As years passed an understanding grew between David and horses and so he began a career as a farrier as well as taking on horses which needed breaking in or re-educating. The constant watching and studying of horses helped him to understand the movement and conformation of each individual horse and also allowed him to empathise with what the horse may be feeling and therfore why he was reacting in various ways. Learning how to float horses teeth early in his farriers career, David had referred horses when more specialised work was needed. This prompted him to return to school so that he could open his mind not only to skills learnt across the globe, but also to the anatomy and physiology of the horse enabling him to have a clear understanding of molar occlusion (molar grind), lateral excursion and the effects of an unbalance mouth on the enire body of the horse.
Today David treats horses and ponies from family pets to high level performance horses dentally and also trims horses feet using techniques which help the horse to understand that no force or harm will come to them allowing many advanced procedures to be completed with out sedation. Referring to one anothers work, researching and allowing the horse to be their greatest teacher allows Sue and David to treat their Equine friends in a manner which is scientifically backed, compassionate and holistic.
